Enabling Japanese On Windows 2000

Unlike previous versions of Windows, Windows 2000 comes equipped with everything you need to display and input Japanese on non-Japanese Windows.

To enable Japanese on your Windows 2000 machine follow these steps:

1 From the control panel (Start=>Settings=>Control Panel) select “Regional Options.”

2 On the “General” tab there should be an area entitled “Language settings for the system.” Scroll down through the languages listed until you reach Japanese. Click on the Japanese check box to select Japanese.

In order to enable Japanese fully on system menus and applications running on your system (i.e. Aroha J/E Dictionary) it is necessary to select Japanese as the default language. To do this press the “Set Default” button beneath the “Language settings for your system” area.

3. Next select the Input Locales tab. In the ”Installed input locales area” press the “Add” button. From the popup window select the Japanese input locale. Press OK to return to the Input locales tab and press OK again to save the new settings and close the “Regional Options” dialog.

4. You will probably be prompted to insert your Windows 2000 CD to install the necessary files, and then prompted to restart your computer to apply the new settings.

Good luck
